Painted on the inside of a mussel shell from an Acadian beach, Sarette transforms this natural fragment of the sea into a miniature display of the maritime history of Maine’s coastline. “Bear Island Light” captures a coastal scene of a sailboat, docked in the harbor, and the beacon of Bear Island Light in the distance. Additionally, this piece proves the idea that anything can be a canvas, only requiring paint, patience, and inspiration.
